Transcription:
The literature suggests that there are more narcissistic males than females about 75%. The reason for this would be explained by socialization with male children, emphasis on performance, emphasis on job and activity, emphasis on competition, natural born aggression to some degree. There is plenty of room of who can give men their run when it comes to narcissism so there is overlap as well in the deeper population. Narcissistic fathers however, that is a pretty serious matter when it comes to the effects on children because so much of the emphasis, the importance in that parenting relationship is about how you are showing up in the world. What your contribution looks like, so the child is getting the message that it’s not who you are but it’s what you do, how you perform, how well you achieve, how well you excel, how others notice it, that’s going to make the difference in terms of your acceptance by the father, your acceptance by the community and so there’s a demanding that comes from a narcissistic dad. There’s often times high criticalness if the child isn’t as perfect as the father expects because it’s the extension of him.
