LGBTQ means lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, or questioning. So when you are helping a LGBTQ youth, one of things to realize is that maybe they can't talk about their relationship because they are not out at school, or maybe they are not out with their friends. One of the things that a LGBTQ youth they might be out at school, but they are not out with their parents. So if they talk to a counselor, they are going to out themselves. One of the other things that happens is with school officials and principals, they'll mistake a relationship that is LGBTQ as bullying. Well, no, it's a relationship. The most important thing to understand is that someone who is out at school, may not be out at home. Someone who is out with friends, may not be out at school and home. You run the risk of really putting them in a situation that's more than dating abuse. It starts to bring on bullying and pressures at home, that person is not really ready to deal with.
