When the question comes to what are schools supposed to do when it comes to dating violence should be, it depends on state to state. In the state of Texas, I am very proud to say that House Bill 121 was passed a few years ago, which said that school districts had to have responses to dating violence. Not all states have that bill passed, but there have been many in the last few years. A lot of times it all depends upon the interpretation by the administrator or the school principal. Schools do need to do something about any form of violence that happens. A lot of times, you may get frustrated because you are not getting the responses that you would want. By contacting Love is Respect, we could maybe help you find a legal advocate who can help you go to the administration and hold them accountable. They can also help you in what kind of documentation you may need. Mostly, it comes down to having documentation and holding your school accountable for how they need to be treating people who are in abusive relationships.
