If your young person is actually living with their abuser and you are trying to figure out what to tell them, the thing that I tell most parents when they call us is make sure that you are not telling them what to do. Make sure that you are being supportive and that you are offering them to always be there and always to listen. But you can also give them things like love is respect where if they ever need to talk to someone and maybe it is not you, they have somewhere to go. It is important to understand that that person may not be in a position to leave the relationship for various reasons, so it´s important that you also don´t try to put on them what they need to do because they are in a relationship in which somebody may be telling them what to do all the time. So being supportive, being available and knowing where to go is the most important things you can do if your loved one is living with an abusive person.
