A family's interest in charity is very important from both an external perspective and an internal perspective. Obviously, externally the interest in charity is that we are helping the world be a better place. Whether it's that we're actually giving money or giving of our time and talent. But there's an important internal mission of the whole charitable activity of a family and that's the values that you transmit to your children. The important interests and passions that you have for others. It helps individuals be other-oriented so that they really care about things that are not just self-indulgant. And individuals who care externally end up being happier individuals. People that have been very active in making the world a better place have a positive energy that is really very, very engaging. And so families need to use their interests to involve their children to let their children feel accomplished, feel that they can create something that is really significant and good in the world, as well as understanding the important values of the family.
