In order to get a child to appreciate the privileges that they have, they really have to see their life in comparison to something else. If a child is being raised in a bubble, it is very difficult for them to appreciate what they have because they don't realize that everybody doesn't have this. One of the things that becomes so important with the charitable work of a family is you can physically let a child move out of the bubble in which he or she may live and actually see what the real world is like. And so I think it's very important for family's to give children real life experiences about what happens in the world around them. Every time that is ever happened with any of the client's that I've ever worked with, the young members come back and say, "Wow. We are so lucky. We are so fortunate to have what we have." I once heard a comedian say something that is really applicable to this situation. The comedian said, "I grew up in a hone I never knew I had heartburn until I started eating at the home of my friends." Because that was a natural state for that individual. So if our children don't get out and have experiences in the real world, it is very difficult for them to be appreciative.
