Reasonable school expectations are not related to a grade, but really to a process by a which a child is a responsible student. Every child is not going to be a straight A student or even a straight B student, and if that is the focus; and you happen to have a highly gifted student in your family, the other children are going to feel inferior if the emphasis is just on the end product. There are four things that I think is reasonable for parents to have expectations. The first is that the child will go to school everyday, unless there is a thermometer in the child's mouth and they have a temperature. The second is that they do their homework, and they turn it in; it's not on the floor, it's not in the backpack. The third is they honor designated study time; which is a period every day that is assigned to do something related to school. If a child comes home and says, "I have no homework," then during designated study time, they will be reading or they can do journal writing. The fourth is that the child reviews for examinations. If the child does all four, then they will make the best possible grades, given the academic environment. Parents should be very positive in terms of the child's performance.
