Spoiled children are not pleasant to be around. They are demanding. They are entitled. It is very disappointing to parents when that occurs, but children become spoiled because they have been overindulged. And I think it is very important for parents to separate needs from wants. The child needs to be loved, to be respected, to be hugged. You cannot do that enough. But when a child gets on the want train, I want, I want, I want and those demands are gratified immediately. You are going to end up with not only a spoiled child who is very demanding but more importantly a child that never has a sense of delaying gratification. Parents who were deprived as children are often very subject to overindulging and then sadly disappointed when the result is a spoiled child.
