"How do I raise a happy child?" is a question that has often been posed. My comment about happiness, really relates more to the parent. I often say that, in life, you will often be as happy as your least happy child. That's a big responsibility as a parent, but creating happiness as a parenting goal is not appropriate. If a child is confident, productive, and feels that they are loved unconditionally, they, in fact, will be happy. But if you are going to parent with happiness as a goal, you will not discipline. There will not be consequences and the result will probably be a spoiled, non-productive, disappointing adult.
